There's Color and there's Material and there's a Weave Structure. Then comes the exciting question: "Well, I wonder what will happen THIS time!"
Simply put, I love to weave. To me, the magic of weaving lies in its essence as both Science and Art. Nothing but the simple placement of threads over and under one another transforms the most ordinary of Nature's materials into objects of incredible strength, beauty and meaning.
I have never failed to be surprised by the results, as colors blend and interact and as the structure causes threads to deflect and re-shape themselves.
A bit of history: at the age of 11 (after ballet lessons in downtown Chicago), I made down payments of 25 cents a week toward a Fernand Leger art print that cost $12.50. (Clearly, this was a while ago!) But the clean lines, architectural forms and bold, courageous colors of that style still appeal to me, and I believe they continue to influence my work.
What inspires me? Light. Light from the sun. Light from the eyes of a loved one. Light that emanates from an inner peace. But here is the most interesting thing about light. It cannot be seen! It is apparent only when it touches and brightens something or someone else.
The ideal I have for my weaving is that it will "glow" from the inside and brighten the spirits of those who see and touch it.
