My Fine Art background collided with craft when I took my first Jewelry class years later, the resulting work is an amalgamation of my studies in primitive artwork, my love of the Lost Wax Casting process, and my greatest interest of all, JEWELRY !
The Lost Wax Casting process has been in use since Ancient Egypt. Each one of my pieces is created with sheets and wires made of jeweler’s Wax. When the wax original is finished, it is enveloped in a plaster mold; then the original wax model is burned out in a kiln, leaving a cavity where the wax used to be… hence the term “lost
wax”. The model is destroyed in the process, but the 3-D form of the design is perfectly replicated in the plaster. Next, molten Silver is poured into the mold, and the metal fills the cavity resulting in a solid metal replica of a model which was originally made in wax! In addition, to casting I also build pieces from metal sheet and metal wire such as my handmade chains; in which each element is hand formed and then joined together.
