Fiber Artist

The common “thread” in this body of work is the use of a sewing machine, pushing it beyond the normal expectations of its function. By dropping the feed dogs, which control the stitches and feed the fabric through the machine, I am able to draw with the needle and thread.

With the thread, I am able to “paint”, blending dozens of colors of thread together to create the rich depth of a painting. I have taken these techniques a step or two further with a collage of hand-dyed and painted fabrics and found objects.

My work can be found at the shops of the Southern Highland Craft Guild in Asheville, NC, Number 7 Arts, Brevard, NC and other galleries and exhibitions throughout the South. Several books and publications feature my work. I can be contacted through my website for further information.
