Kelly McCullough has been a successful professional ceramist for 10 years. Her formal training began while attending Converse College in Spartanburg , SC where she received a BFA in Studio Art in 1998. Kelly further broadened her knowledge of art and ceramics at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland , NC during the summers of 1997, 1998, and 1999. Kelly taught ceramics and managed the pottery studio at The Spartanburg County Museum of Art from 1998 until 2004. She is now a full time studio potter.
All of Kelly's work is wheel thrown and hand built porcelain fired to cone 6 oxidation. She uses a surface technique known as sprigging. Kelly hand carves flowers, dragonflies, or palm trees in hardened plaster. Each one is then individually applied to the surface of the pot by hand. All of the work is functional and safe for use. |
