Kathy Seely's Gallery
Epona: Epona is hand woven using a technique that I created for achieving curves in stitched beadwork instead of "stairsteps" which create curves visually, but not realistically. Cylindrical shaped glass beads, including 24k gold plated ones surround an ancient fossilized horse's tooth. This piece also incorporates, vintage 1920s glass beads, amber, jet and leather. A toggle hangs from the clasp as a counterweight.
The image of the horse can be found all over southern Britain cut into the chalk hills by the bronze age inhabitants of the island. The horse image that I chose for Epona is near Uffington. Epona honors my ancestors and their spiritual world. This piece is in a private collection.
