Donald & Harriet Herrick
Black Mountain, NC
Don and Harriet Herrick create fused glass sculptures using specially formulated "compatible" glass. They fire each piece for about eight hours to a temperature of 1400° F.
Harriet, who has an art degree, does most of the initial design work. Don, an electrical engineer, takes charge of the firing and constructs the display stands, made of wood or steel, on which the pieces are mounted. Together they cut, grind, and assemble the sculptural glass art pieces. Subject matter ranges from realistic scenery to abstract geometric designs.
