My art and my mountain homeland mean so much to me. Perhaps when someone purchases one of my creations they will take some of the peace of this area back with them.

Linda Caristo is a full  time professional jeweler who has been creating her unique pieces of art for 30+ years.  She is a native of Western North Carolina and her family has resided in this area since the 1600's.  Her designs are heavily influenced by nature and the styles of the Arts and Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau and Art Deco Eras.  She also specializes in Celtic designs.

Linda is primarily known for her fine detailed hand pierced work.  Many of these designs are filled with translucent Plique a Jour enamel.  Plique a Jour (light of the day) describes the stained glass window effect that is created. This enameling technique was popularized during the Art Nouveau Era by such master jewelers as Rene Lalique.  Linda had the rare opportunity to learn this lost art many years ago from a Russian artist, Valeri Timofeev.  Valeri had actually helped to restore some of the Faberge Eggs in Russia and his remaining work is highly prized today.  She was taught in the original glass and wire technique.  Valeri discouraged her from using the technique in jewelry because it was too fragile (this is why it became a lost art). He was right - the wire would bend, the glass easily cracked, and panels would fall out.  Most of the antique pieces have damage.  Using too much enamel would make the piece too heavy and it would not have the jeweled effect created by the cupping of the enamel.  Linda loved the use of  translucent enamel in the Art Nouveau jewelry and was determined to figure out a way to do it successfully.   She did.  Instead of using the glass (vitreous) enamel she figured out a way to use a more durable resin based enamel utilizing the same surface tension technique.  Instead of wires (cloisonnes) the enamel is placed in hand pierced cells which makes the piece more structural sound.  Now these beautiful works of art can be worn and enjoyed without the fear of breakage.  They can also be displayed as art.  The Artist is reintroducing an old art form made new.  These pieces are heirloom collectible and are available from $100 to $50,000+.

Linda Caristo has won many awards for her work.  Her work was selected to be part of an important Art Nouveau exhibit at the Forbes' Galleries in New York which included original work of Tiffany and other master jewelers of that era.  Her work has been used to promote art events including The Atlanta Arts Festival.
