Media: Fiber
I have been creating art with my sewing machine for more than thirty years, growing, changing and developing new fiber techniques along the way.
My "painted quilts" are a hybrid of fine art (painting and collage) and fine craft (stitching and quilting) using techniques that I have invented along the way.
I am pleased to be able to make a living doing what I love. The seasonal changes in the North Carolina mountains offer daily visual inspiration for my art I begin each piece by painting large sheets of canvas. I then cut, piece, and layer the background like a quilt. Many small embroidered parts are applied to the surface to build color and texture. I also like to use metallic fabrics and thread because the light-reflective quality adds a whole other dimension.
