This small ceramic pot was made by Lynn Jenkins of Seneca, SC. Lynn started potting as a teenager in 1976, and clay has been a part of her life ever since. The black pots are hand burnished with a smooth stone to give them their shine. There is no glaze on the pot--it is made of white clay, and it is the firing process that turns it black. It is fired in a gas kiln for several hours, and then it is fired in newspaper for several more hours. While firing in the newspaper the clay absorbs carbon from the burning and turns black! Note~these pots are not waterproof. Lynn hopes you enjoy the energy she passes to you with her pottery! 4 in. high, 3 3/8 in. at shoulder. Artist statement and explanation of black pots included.
