Troy Amastar lives and creates beautiful, functional porcelain pottery in Alexander, North Carolina, not far from Asheville. A long-time potter, Troy joined our Guild in 2003, and has been sharing her talents with us ever since.
Troy admires the Japanese aesthetic, and uses porcelain, the finest clay-body, to reflect that. However her style is all her own--at once both contemporary and timeless. Her love of the nature and the outdoors is often represented in her pots--from dragonflies to leaves to the stylized floral pattern seen on this mug. Troy "draws" the pattern on each piece free-hand, using slip, or very wet clay, as her "paint." The final glaze coat is added after the first firing, and the piece is fired a second time, resulting in the wonderful finished product.
Approximately 4 ½" high, 3" wide. Amber glaze over black slip-trailing, with dark green interior (would pair nicely with the green/amber mug, which is the same--just the opposite!)
Artist statement included.
