VOLUNTEER

The Southern Highland Craft Guild is an educational, non-profit organization founded in 1930 to bring together the crafts and craftspeople of the Southern Highlands for the benefit of shared resources, education, conservation and marketing.

Volunteer Opportunities at the Folk Art Center

The Folk Art Center is the Guild's headquarters, providing educational opportunities through changing exhibitions, a craft library, craft demonstrations, and outreach to schools in the region. Volunteers are an integral part of the day-to-day operation of the Blue Ridge Parkway's Folk Art Center. You are encouraged to become a part of the Guild's volunteer team. Some volunteer opportunities include:

  • Main Gallery attendant
  • Special Events host/hostess
  • Clerical Assistant

Volunteer Opportunities at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands

The Guild sponsors two Craft Fairs each year in July and October, held at the Asheville Civic Center. The Fairs showcase the work of over 200 SHCG members and feature educational craft demonstrations and live regional music. Volunteers help the Fairs run smoothly by providing help to Guild staff and exhibitors. Some volunteer opportunities include:

  • Greeters/program distribution
  • Support for Information Desks
  • Lunch relief for exhibitors

Volunteering at the Folk Art Center is a wonderful way to support a local non-profit while having the opportunity to be around beautiful work and interacting with talented craftspeople. You also get to talk to visitors from all over the world and share information about this area and the Guild. As a group the volunteer team gets together for field trips to studios as well as an annual Holiday Party.  We hope you will consider sharing your time and talents with us.
