$5

The Southern Highland Craft Guild presents, The Maker’s Table, a monthly program where Blowing Rock Art & History Museum invites visitors to spend an evening with a master maker while they share the ins and outs of their craft.

In this talk, “Stories among the Stitches,” Jen will discuss the imagery in her work and her methods for putting it on fabric, including a Japanese shibori resist dyeing demonstration.

About the Speaker:

The Maker's Table: Jennythreads Surface Design: Stories Among the Stitches

Jen Swearington is a member of The Southern Highland Craft Guild and the founder and chief designer of Jennythreads, a small artisan fashion line based in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. She is also author and illustrator of “Printing on Fabric,” a comprehensive textile design manual. Her joy in everyday wonder leads her to draw from life; her observational sketches and patterns become textile prints on her Jennythreads apparel, sold in galleries and boutiques nationwide. Throughout her career, she has also actively exhibited her fine art in galleries and exhibitions, and she has taught at Arrowmont, Penland, UNC Asheville, and the Savannah College of Art and Design. In April 2018, she created a series of innovative papercut sculptures and intricate pop-up books during a one-month artist residency in Sofia, Bulgaria.
