All of my brooms and brushes are entirely handmade in the old mountain style. The handles are made of saplings or limbs discarded either by progress or beneficial pruning. The sweeps are made from the tassel of the broom corn plant and tied securely to give maximum usage.

Pisgah Forest

My journey of this art and craft started in the fall of 2001 when I attended John C. Campbell Folk School. I gained knowledge and philosophy from 3 master broom makers. Later, I learned that my maternal grandmother tied brooms while working as s cook at one of the nearby sawmills. Also, dear, faithful friends such as Bob and Barbara Miler, Ernie and Patti Caldwell, Jane Hoerrner and Ted Whitmire have greatly influenced and supported me. Now I have a great passion for this useful craft.
