"Paper begins as wet, gooey PULP - and I PAINT with it!"
I create realistic paintings filled with light, vibrant colors, and amazing texture.
Working daily in her studio in a small town outside Nashville, TN, Chery Cratty creates paintings of the natural world that surrounds her. She is self-taught, as fewer than a handful of artists use pulp as paint. "Starting around 1995, I developed my techniques by trial and error. Figuring out what tools would work was a fun challenge, as none exist specifically for pulp painting, except ketchup bottles, and turkey basters."
Using tools such as a South African Porcupine Quill, she manipulates and molds wet pulp to paint pictures with thick texture and vibrant color.
