Marcia Bugg creates functional, high-fired porcelain that is fired in a reduction kiln she built. Marcia has a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Georgia and an MFA in Ceramics from Clemson University. Marcia was resident potter for the John C. Campbell Folk School for over fifteen years and teaches there frequently. She has also taught at the Jacksonville Center for the Arts in Floyd, VA and at Arrowmont.

Marcia says of her work in clay, "It is simply magic to take wet, sticky clay that comes from the earth and change it into something useful for serving and holding food and flowers. I tell all of my students this even though I know and can explain the technical reasons why this works."

Much of my work is ash glazed. It is fascinating to open a kiln full of work to see the unique, yet subtle, variety of surfaces resulting from these glazes.

In addition to my pottery for the home and garden I am currently working on a series of funeray urns for humans and their companion pets. Please contact me for photographs and other information regarding these.
