Ms. Janet Taylor has been a recognized artist, speaker, and educator for more than three decades. Ms. Taylor's educational credits include a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA from Syracuse University's School of Art. Upon receiving her degrees Ms. Taylor simultaneously began a career in teaching and a career as an exhibiting artist. Ms. Taylor's résumé as an educator begins at Philadelphia's Moore College of Art in the late 1960s and proceeds into the 1970s at Kent State University. Ms. Taylor left Kent State in 1976 for her appointment as Professor at the School of Art of Arizona State University. In 2000 Ms. Taylor concluded her 24-year tenure at ASU where she is now Professor Emerita.

Ms. Taylor began exhibiting in 1969. Her work has been featured in almost 30 exhibitions from 1970 to 1995. Ms. Taylor's tapestries and other fiber arts have appeared in numerous publications and were the basis of a 1986 television program produced by KAET in Tempe, Arizona. Ms. Taylor has also devoted her time to lecturing at local organizations as well as national conferences.

In 1990, Ms. Taylor stopped making and exhibiting tapestries and opened her studio. Upon her retirement from ASU, Ms. Taylor moved the studio to Penland, North Carolina. Ms. Taylor is currently serving the seventh year of an eight year appointment to the Board of Trustees at the Penland School of Crafts. This posting is the culmination of a 32 year relationship with the school where Ms. Taylor has been a guest artist and an instructor. Ms. Taylor also had a program where students could gain experience in an independent studio. Like Ms. Taylor's life, her studio has a manifold purpose: Janet Taylor Studio is both a business and a teaching environment.
