Joanna specializes in creating hand-painted art to wear on silk with layers of soy wax and French acid dyes. Color aptitude is her gift as she seeks to mirror the inspiration found in nature, beautiful skies and the joy of life found everywhere in our natural world.

Joanna White is a self-taught Batik Artist who began working professionally twelve years ago after retiring from teaching special children, adolescents and volunteering with non-profit organizations. Her focus is on silk a natural fiber using dyes and wax. What makes her batik unique is that it is painted with brushes and tjanting tools to create one of a kind art to wear garments and paintings. Painting on silk is like flying in beautiful skies...the dyes move and flow magically on her silk canvas. Being a trained teacher, Joanna loves to share her techniques with others offering classes at art schools, galleries and her home studio in Leicester. Joanna is a juried member of the three major North Carolina Fine Arts and Crafts Guilds. She on the board of Silk Painters International recruiting faculty for their bi-yearly Festival.
