Description

Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program Graduate Exhibition 2022. On display at the Folk Art Center May 21 – September 7.

“I like to make jewelry that stands out in a room and starts a conversation, but can also be worn comfortably in day-to-day situations. The pieces are made from common and precious metals that have been scrounged and re-purposed into wearable, sustainable jewelry.

The “gems” that I set in my jewelry are constructed by me from re-purposed or scrounged materials. Plexiglass, antique photographs, glitter, paint, acrylic resin, and other materials are combined to make intimate unique, and eye catching “gems” that can be set in  a variety of jewelry.

I prefer not to limit myself to one medium of style. I am always looking for new ways to create and tell a story visually, which leads me to experiment with different media. When thinking about future projects, I prefer to leave myself open to experimentation. I attempt which ever ideas I may have, regardless of how silly of frivolous they seem, in order to see what resonates visually and psychology.” – Evan Dent
