“This collection started when I began playing with natural dying of silk, cotton and linen. I used 3 different formulas; Steel and vinegar to make golden yellow, avocado pits boiled in water for pinkish and copper and ammonia to create a lovely aqua. I loved the way they worked together and formed the basis for the color scheme. From that point, I began adding bits and pieces of vintage linens and lace as well as other fabrics that blended.
As for the themes, as always, I find inspiration for new work in a variety of places. Sometimes it is a a piece of fabric, like the flower cork for the jumper on Flower Power or the blue silk for St. Nick. Sometimes it is a phrase from an inspirational site – “Leave a Trail of Kindness everywhere you go.” The classic ‘Faith, Hope and Love” is just part of all of us! Angels and Mermaids have been revisited several times in my work. The Bee Everything started with the fabric with the bees and I wanted to have her feel like a bee so I created the little bustle.”
