“For this series, I gave myself three parameters: large scale, bright colors, and bold flowers. I started with white linen and hand painted each piece of fabric, then printed it with silkscreens from original drawings. Sometimes more layers of paint and pattern were added after that, creating texture and interest. Once I had built up a rich palate of fabrics, I cut and layered each piece onto a painted background, building the quilt like collage. Then everything was appliqued using a tight zig-zag stitch and quilted using a home sewing machine.
These quilts speak for themselves. They offer a playful and bold statement of delight that invokes summer backyards and the magic of childhood.
I hope you enjoy visiting with them as much I loved making them.” ~ Jude Stuecker
