Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program Graduate Exhibition 2022. On display at the Folk Art Center May 21 – September 7.
“Jewelry is personal for me. For 20 years my late husband Klaus Spies and I ran a studio craft jewelry business – every piece handmade – until his untimely death in 2019. These past two years in the Professional Craft Program at Haywood Community College and the graduate exhibition are my attempt to make sense of what was, a life built around goldsmithing and jewelry making that was jarringly upended. What could be my way forward? With jewelry, through jewelry, even without jewelry?” – Susan Spies
