Shaker Cherry Oval Trays

Using the methods of old Shaker craftsmen, artist Jeffrey Neil uses thin wood strips that are made with a cut finger pattern. Hot water soaking makes this wood pliable, and the wood is bent to an oval shape in a single motion. Copper tacks in the fingers fix the oval shape. The top and bottom are secured with wooden pegs.  They are finished with four coats of polyurethane.
