Brian Wurst

My work is a balance of two backgrounds – rigorous studio training, and deep love of the natural world. Before woodworking became my focus, I was an architect, learning much of structure, pattern, and detail; that sometimes translates into a geometric, Deco-like design sensibility. In those same years I hiked thousands of miles into the mountains where my family has lived for generations, learning their flora, fauna, and culture; from this comes a fondness for curves and natural imagery. As opposite as these two sometimes seem, I strive to blend them in wood furniture, sculpture, and accessories.

This piece is part of the current exhibition in the Focus Gallery located upstairs at the Folk Art Center.  It’s All in the Details features the work of  5 members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
