Peter Werner

Mr . Werner makes two different types of brooms - ones with wooden handles and smaller ones without handles. His handled brooms range is size from smaller hearth brooms to full sized sweeping brooms. Peter also makes smaller non-handled brooms out of processed hurl cut into uniform lengths. These brrooms come in different styles including large and small whisk brooms, dusters, turkey wing, fanned turkey wing with and without plaiting, hawk's tail, pot scrubbers, veggie brushes, and cake testers.

Using the same techniques and materials he uses to tie larger brooms, artist Peter Werner hand-crafts this cake tester.  It can be used as a decorative or functional item.  To use: break off one of the stiff bristles off the broom, and use as you would a toothpick.  Hundreds of sticks of broom corn are gathered, tied, and covered with a straw handle, which Peter weaves in various designs.
