This dotted scarf has been created using a batik that is unique because it has been painted with brushes and tjanting tools to create a one of a kind design. The Devore technique has also been used on this piece which is the art of “burning” a design onto the fabric to give it a textured look.

Description

Joanna White is a self-taught Batik Artist who began working professionally twelve years ago after retiring from teaching special children, adolescents and volunteering with non-profit organizations. Her focus is on silk a natural fiber using dyes and wax. What makes her batik unique is that it is painted with brushes and tjanting tools to create one of a kind art to wear garments and paintings. Painting on silk is like flying in beautiful skies…the dyes move and flow magically on her silk canvas. Being a trained teacher, Joanna loves to share her techniques with others offering classes at art schools, galleries and her home studio in Leicester. Joanna is a juried member of the three major North Carolina Fine Arts and Crafts Guilds. She on the board of Silk Painters International recruiting faculty for their bi-yearly Festival.
