Description
This Celtic design is named for the Goddess Brigid, which predates Christianity in Ireland. Her spirit was thought to herald spring and was celebrated on February 1st. When Ireland became Christian, this protective and fertile female spirit became St. Brigid, becoming on of the Patron Saints of Ireland. Her ancient symbol, now known as St. Brigid’s cross, is associated with health and safety, and decorates many households for protection of the home and those who dwell within.
