Billie Ruth Sudduth

Basketry is actually my second career. I spent almost twenty years as a school psychologist. It is appropriate that my baskets become mathematically based, having spent my earlier career with testing, measurements, statistics, and math.

Billie Ruth Sudduth has been making Carolina Snowflakes for over 30 years.  Since she published a how-to book on the Carolina Snowflake in 1986, people all over the world over have been making and selling them, but this is the original.  They look beautiful in a multi-pane window, hanging from a ceiling fan pull, or on the top of a Christmas tree. The walnut color is appropriate to hang year round.

The Carolina Snowflake has hung on three White House trees, in Smithsonian gift shops, and homes all over the world. They have been featured on HGTV, PBS, and QVC.  Learn about the mathematical component of her baskets here.

  • 10″ in diameter, 2″ deep
  • All-natural dye made with crushed walnut hulls
