Cruso Studio is located 30 miles west of Asheville, North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The studios are LUCID DESIGNS and GIBSON DESIGNS. Bob and Lucy Gibson are sole proprietors.
LUCID DESIGNS specializes in contemporary, one of a kind, handcrafted jewelry, including rings, earrings, cuffs, pendants, and other neck wear.
GIBSON DESIGNS produces contemporary one of a kind and limited production forms ranging from digital imagery to clocks.
“The process of making things has been a part of my life since childhood. There is a challenge and excitement in discovering a new way to solve a problem, a new way to see a form. Everything interests me. I want to try it all. There just isn’t enough time but I’m going to give it a good try.”
Former art director with the Georgia Historical Commission, Bob Gibson graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in painting and drawing.
Now a retired instructor of design, drafting, craft photography and craft history, he has also exhibited in galleries and shows throughout the country.
“I don’t know what caused me to become an artist because I can’t remember not being one. I started out drawing on meat packing paper and shirt cardboards, then later, in the margins and on the covers of my notebooks. Drawing was a way of defining and explaining myself.
I started making jewelry from the contents of an old button box. Several button boxes later, I took the next step and completed a course in jewelry design and production. I am still exploring the possibilities.”
Lucy Gibson received her BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design and a degree in Metalworking from the Professional Crafts Program of Haywood Community College.
