I am interested in preserving memory and mapping patterns, digging to expose layers of meaning and complexity. I enjoy examining how our lives become intertwined and how certain patterns in behavior, speech, shared imagery, and landscape emerge over time. My work explores the tension between what is exposed and what remains mysterious, and plays upon the fragmented nature of memory.
Lauren Faulkenberry is a writer and book artist based in Whittier, North Carolina. A love of storytelling drives her work, often leading her to explore the points where shared mythologies and personal histories overlap. She incorporates hand paper-making, letterpress printing, woodcuts, linoleum block prints, and monoprinting techniques into her work. A love of science, nature, and anthropology emerge as undercurrents, as do her preoccupations with the fluid and fragmented nature of memory. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally, and her books are held in Special Collections libraries in the U.S. and abroad. Her interests vary from artist books to limited editions to commercially-produced books. Lauren holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Georgia College and an MFA in Book Arts from The University of Alabama. She currently divides her time between writing (mostly novels) and teaching workshops in the book arts, and produces artist books under the imprint Firebrand Press. She is active on Twitter and Instagram as @FirebrandPress and would love to connect with you.
